New Planning Fees Shock

Last month we wrote about Victoria’s new planning fee structure. The new fees are now in force and generally result in across-the-board increases for planning permit applicants.

But, like most things, it is often difficult to fully appreciate the impact of such a change until you experience the new regime first hand.

Last week Clause 1 lodged a secondary consent amendment seeking to make minor changes to an existing planning permit. Had we lodged the amendment 3 weeks earlier, an application fee of $102 would have been applicable.   Unfortunately, under the new regime the application fee was more than $3,000.

Needless to say, this was a shock to our client and a timely reminder that you really are better off getting the application right the first time.
