Following on from the recent introduction of the new Residential Zones and amended Commercial and Industrial Zones, released in July 2013, the State Government has announced the details of the amended Rural Zones which are scheduled to come into effect on Sept 5 2013.
The following Rural Zones have been amended:
- Farming Zone
- Rural Activity Zone
- Rural Conservation Zone
- Green Wedge Zone
- Green Wedge A Zone
- Rural Living Zone
The changes generally provide increased support for agricultural, tourism and related business activities in these areas by removing restrictions and permit triggers.
Other significant changes include:
- A reduction in the default minimum lot size in a Rural Living Zone from 8 hectares to 2 hectares;
- Changes to the purpose of the Green Wedge and Farming Zone;
- Increased permit exemptions for dwelling additions and farm buildings;
Over the coming weeks Clause 1 will prepare a detailed comparison of the new and old zones.
