Under recent changes to the Planning and Environment Act 1987, permit applicants will be able to avoid paying the Metropolitan Planning Levy in circumstances where:
- The person has made a previous permit application on the same land
- The person has paid the amount of the levy in respect to the previous permit application
- The estimated cost of the development is not more than 10% of the previous permit application.
The act requires that a “levy exemption certificate” be acquired by the applicant prior to lodging the planning permit application and specifies that the levy exemption certificate is valid for 180days.
At the time of writing this article neither the State Revenue Office or the Dept of Transport & Planning seem to have updated their information on this new exemption and no online application process could be found. But we are sure it’s not far away.
